How do I join up my book club?

  • Read through the terms and conditions to make sure this service is right for you.
  • Decide on a coordinator for your group.
  • Fill in the online form with your book club’s name and coordinator’s contact details.
  • A staff member will contact you to arrange pick up of your book clubs library card.

How do I borrow a community book kit?

  • Choose a title from our list of Community Book Kits.
  • Place a hold using your book club's library card. Holds cannot be reserved using an individual’s library card.
  • When the community kit is ready to pick up it will be placed on the holds shelf at the branch you requested.
  • The loan period is 6 weeks, with no renewals allowed.
  • Up to two community book kits can be borrowed at the one time.

Where and how do I return a community book kit?

  • Kits can be returned at any of our locations.
  • The bag, exact number of copies and the laminated questions must be returned together.
  • The entire kit needs to be returned to staff at the information desk, and not through the internal or external book chute.

What happens if I lose or damage a book in the kit?

  • The book club will be charged the replacement fee for that item and a processing fee of $17.00.
  • Please see staff if this occurs as payment can only be made by credit or debit card at the library.
  • This will need to be paid before the book club can borrow or reserve another community book kit.

  1. Community book clubs need to register before borrowing or reserving a Community Book Kit.
  2. Community Book Kits can be borrowed for up to 6 weeks. This cannot be extended.
  3. Up to two Community Book Kits can be borrowed at a time.
  4. Nominate one member of your group to be the contact person. It is the group’s responsibility to contact the library if these details change.
  5. Community Book Kits can be reserved. They will be kept on the hold shelf for a maximum of ten days at the library of your request.
  6. You must bring your book club’s library card to borrow a Community Book Kit.
  7. The entire kit and bag must be borrowed and returned together. They can be collected and returned at any library within the Sutherland Shire.
  8. Community Book Kits must be returned in person to library staff during library opening hours. They must not be returned through the book chutes.
  9. Lost or damaged books must be paid for along with a processing fee per item. Damage includes anything beyond normal wear from reading. E.g., water damage. You are responsible for any fees incurred.
