Celebrate Reconciliation Week… with science! Join ANSTO Senior Science Communications Manager, Susan Bogle and Senior Scientist Dr Geraldine Jacobsen to discover ancient wonders.
ANSTO has supported more than 35 Indigenous research projects in the past decade, verifying the great antiquity of Indigeous culture. Our guest scientists will present highlights from the Indigenous Research Map.
This talk will explore some examples of how nuclear science and technology is being used by archaeologists, Indigenous communities and other organisations on samples that date back thousands of years.
This includes one of the oldest examples of organised aquaculture in the world, an ancient site that supports the Aboriginal occupation of the Riverland area in South Australia for 29,000 years and a more recent find of throwing sticks used by the ancestors of the Yandruwandha Yawarrawarrka people from a creek bed at Innaminka.
